Capacity Building in the Asia and Pacific Region:
Workshop on Agricultural Statistics and Agriculture
Census

2-5 November 2009, Bangkok, Thailand
Purpose:
This workshop aims to strengthen the national
agricultural statistical system and integrate efforts of
data producers and planners towards improving the data
for agriculture and food security planning.
Objective:
The
objectives of the workshop are to (i) review the
agriculture statistics systems in the participating DMCs
and their medium-term plans for statistical development
for producing timely, reliable, and accurate statistics
for planning and policy formulation for agriculture and
food security; (ii) advocate an integrated approach to
development of agriculture and food statistics within
the national statistical system; and (iii) strengthen
the capacity of the DMCs in conducting agriculture
surveys and census and producing food security
statistics.
Expected Outputs:
At the end of the workshop, the participants will have
familiarized and discussed international standards and
good practices for generating agriculture and food
security statistics and shared country practices.
Target Participants:
Participation is by invitation only to the following:

Senior
officials from the National Statistics Office, Ministry
of Agriculture, and Planning Agency from Afghanistan,
Cambodia, Lao PDR, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal and
Timor-Leste
